Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 150 g plain flour – sieved
- 50 g coco powder – sieved or all flour for plain waffles
- pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 50 g light brown sugar Caster is also fine
- 25 g grated dark chocolate (omit for plain)
Wet Ingredients
- 250 ml any milk (the fuller the fatter the better!)
- 75 g butter – melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

- 2 whole eggs medium egg whites (or large are fine)
- (separated) medium egg yolks

Instructions
- Mix all the dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
- In another bowl mix the wet ingredients including the egg yolks (except the egg whites).
- Whisk the wet ingredients in to the dry to form a smooth batter.
- In a third bowl whisk the whites until firm / stiff with peaks.
- Gently mix the egg whites in to the smooth batter until well incorporated.
- Rest the mix in the fridge for 20 minutes or so.
- Make your waffles in your pre-heated waffle irons***
- Mine take 7 – 8 minutes.
Recipe Notes
WAFFLE MACHINES - sorry you can't make waffles without waffles irons or a machine.
The best all round bet is to buy a 3 in 1 sandwich toaster with removable waffle plates, for around £15-25.
For a chunkier waffle buy a dedicated waffle machine from £30-40
