Spa-ing it up in Norfolk Mead

Coltishall, Norfolk

I love variation in life, new holiday destinations to enjoy, new friends to discover, new places to eat and new hair colours.

But sometimes you find a place that you fall in love with and go to over and over again because it’s that good.

We discovered the Norfolk Mead in Coltishall over 20 years ago, I remember when they had an open air pool in their courtyard out the back (now a gorgeous wedding venue space) – when I would ask for a yorkie pudding for my toddler and the bunch of daffodils we got one mother’s day and the stroll afterwards to the river, it’s in such a amazing location.

Over 20 years later with off course visits in-between we enjoyed mother’s day roast once again and noticed they were building a spa facility.

It opened just a few weeks ago and since I have always raved about the hotel and especially the food they offered me a discount.

We booked for our 26th Wedding Anniversary usually £105 pp inc a £25 lunch pp allowance and a 30 minute treatment along with 4 hours from 9.30 to use in the facility’s. But they offer all sorts of packages inc an upgrade £160pp inc a pastry and coffee in their bar / coffee shop area and a 60 minute treatment. Plus stays from £225 pp as above with bed and breakfast.

Because yes the Norfolk Mead is a lovely country hotel.

Your £25 allowance pp can be used on their renowned afternoon tea, perfect with ladies who lunch or their tapas menu – getting you quite a few sharing plates to enjoy. Food is all prepared and cooked in their on-site kitchen, apart from afternoon tea which is brought over from their main hotel kitchen where the pastry chef resides. But they have also build a stunning restaurant area in the spa space, overlooking their private courtyard area with comfy seats and a bistro feel.

Brunch is served am, lunch pm along with afternoon tea – I think last orders are around 5pm but there is snacks and pastry’s served in the coffee bar until 8pm.

PS – along with cocktails.

So facilities inc a hydro pool which is like a Roman bath with modern day jacuzzi seating and water fall pipes, an outside enclosed seating area with covered jacuzzi, a sauna and a steam room. Along with sun beds and a tropical 3 setting shower experience.

Plus they have a relaxation room upstairs with darkness, comfy loungers and relaxing music which we never got to enjoy – which is probably a good job as we would have fallen asleep and taken up residency.

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the treatment rooms are high tec with lowering beds, inc heat and leg arches. Making the experience more enjoyable – there is nothing worse than investing in a massage and getting noise from nearby – like out the back of a hairdressers, where Norma is talking about Derek at high volume and the hairdresser is joining in ‘oh, I know’

So a quiet peaceful place for a treatment room is a must.

So we would rate the spa facility’s at the Norfolk Mead very highly, the food a must and totally recommend you get booked in.
